FUN WITH WORDS
Hello my friends – we were chatting in my writing group the other evening and the conversation started around proverbs – you know the sort – a watched kettle never boils…
Have you ever heard of these – and better yet, can you add to them:
A watched kettle never boils, but it does judge you — patience is hard, and appliances know it.
You can’t butter toast on both sides without making a mess — you can’t have everything without consequences.
Even a broken umbrella has its moment in the sun — everyone gets lucky eventually.
Don’t poke the sleeping hedgehog — leave trouble alone unless you fancy a prickly outcome.
A biscuit dropped is a biscuit shared with gravity — accidents happen; accept them with grace.
You can’t outrun the rain, only out‑prepare it — planning beats panic.
Even the boldest fox checks the garden gate twice — courage doesn’t mean skipping caution.
Tea solves nothing, but it makes the nothing nicer — comfort matters.
A tidy desk hides a very busy carpet — appearances can be deceiving.
Mind the gap, especially the one in your thinking — be aware of your blind spots.
