LAUNCH

It’s been manic. Social media gone mad. I’m not a guru in all of that, just ask my family and friends. They have put up with my issues around this and have been fantastic in their support. Thank you especially to Dave, Kelly and Sam. Couldn’t have done it without you. Its really weird, a surreal feeling to think my book is out there and being read by absolutely anyone. If you are thinking about buying it, have bought it then I thank you from the bottom of my heart. If you could leave a kind review then that would be simply amazing.

“When Harriet Laws loses her grandmother and her job, her happy life in London seems over. Alone, grief-stricken and penniless, she thinks wildly about ending it all. Fate steps in as Tom Fletcher saves her, gives her hope, and guides her to new employment. He takes her to dinner, and she finds him attractive. He’s older, but she doesn’t mind. Does he? Tom, a quiet, hardworking man, is unsure of Harriet’s feelings. Harriet appreciates Tom’s quiet strength of character, his kindness and caring nature, and has already begun to fall for him. Tom is busy building his business interests and now dares to hope that he may take their friendship to another level.

However, CJ Rutherford, a handsome, wealthy antique dealer has viewed Harriet from a distance. He has been watching, waiting, planning. At precisely the right moment CJ capitalises and swiftly draws Harriet into his carefully spun web of lies and deceit. Having stolen Harriet from Tom, CJ is now able to forge on with his plans.  Whilst Harriet is smart, she is also trusting. CJ is charming, sophisticated and she finds herself irresistibly swept into his arms and into his world. A world different to all she has ever known before.

Harriet is now on a journey she could never have imagined in her wildest dreams. CJ’s plans begin to come to fruition. Harriet’s life has changed beyond all recognition. Harriet feels unable to free herself from CJ, until finally, when she makes shocking discoveries, runs for her life. What follows, no one could have predicted, as Harriet has not only lost contact with all her friends, but she must again fight for her very life…will she ever see Tom again?

HENRY’S CAFE

It’s funny when I handed out my bookmarks in the cafe – doing a book signing, I noticed that they were being gathered up as the tables were cleaned and chucked in the bin! I didn’t give covid a thought. It just goes to show promotion is difficult in more ways than one.

ROADS TO PUBLICATION

There are many roads to publication. Many try but give up because rejection is so hard to take. In my case, I feel I am really fortunate. I had no intention of sending any of my work to publishers. It was a hobby after all. I love writing, and am obsessive about writing, but a couple of well-intentioned people gave me a kick up the proverbial to go for it. I had just retired, and hoped to go trekking around the world with my husband, but then the invisible big bad wolf emerged, life changed, for everyone.

After giving careful thought, I realised I had nothing to lose. I picked up my brilliant, but ancient gift of a 2015 Writers year handbook and began the hard labour of writing an interview. That’s what it is, when you send out an enquiry. It has to be so shiny bright, it hurts your eyes. It’s harder than writing a novel. Honestly! However, the story doesn’t stop there. I had a gut feeling about one publisher, and, having not heard from them after the 3 months they all suggest, I wrote back, simply asking if they were not interested let me know so that I could move on. Herein lies another surprising twist. I am truly amazed at the outcome, and would absolutely love to share this story to encourage other budding writers not to give up. If you have a dream, turn it into a reality.

Secrets, Shame, and a Shoebox : London 1950’s and everyone has a secret. It can be found on Amazon, Blackwells, Waterstones, Barnes and Nobel and other outlets.

Its such as you read my thoughts! You seem to grasp a lot about this, like you wrote the e book in it or something. I feel that you just could do with a few % to drive the message home a little bit, but other than that, that is excellent blog. A great read. I'll certainly be back.
