I started this blog as I have a few stories I wanted to get off my chest.

I have accepted the offer of a contract for my debut novel – Its Historical fiction set in the 50’s – which I hope will be published this year. At the moment, I am unable to reveal anything more.

I have to be honest when I received the offer  – it felt just as unreal as the pandemic – but the reasons for wanting to share my news- is not just the obvious – a selfish one –to get the word about –  but it may be helpful to some, who have not had much luck with getting their work published yet.

There are tons of brilliant self-help books out there. I am no expert – and do not profess to have all the answers, but if anyone gets to read this, and has a question, I would be delighted to try and answer best I can. If I don’t know the answer I will do some research first. Just go to my email – Author@wifeinthewest.com

I begin with the surprise. In my head I’m a spring chicken, a Peta Pan –I also had this daft notion … that someone, somewhere, somehow, would hear about my fantastic work and beg me to publish with them so I wouldn’t have to do any of the hard stuff at all.

(Okay so I am delusional) After all, I told myself – I’m much too busy writing – to have time to look for a publisher – but closer to the truth is, I didn’t have the confidence – I was too scared to get going – I guess, for fear of a professional reading it, and then die laughing at my attempt at writing.

After all I didn’t want to be sued FOR MANSLAUGTER.

The facts are plain – if a whole bunch of people hadn’t supported me in my efforts and if my friend Jac and husband Dave hadn’t given me the much needed boot up the bum to send my novel out into the world – it may never have happened… (I am lucky to have every one of them in my life)

To read someone a story you share the experience – to have a story read to you is magical – to write a story is pure joy.

  1. Amazing! This blog looks just like my old one! It’s on a entirely different topic but it has pretty much the same layout and design. Wonderful choice of colors!

    1. Well thank you so much! Secrets, Shame, and a Shoebox is the Prequel to the Twenty One Year Contract. I’m meant to be working on that right now.
Thanks for asking. Do you write by any chance?

    1. Like a book I like to read the print. The screen I find hurts my eyes. I understand that computers are not good for them. Hence I guess the glasses I wear.
We’re all different. Love your point of view!

  2. I think what you said was very logical. However, think on this,
what if you were to create a killer post title? I ain’t saying your
information isn’t good, but what if you added a post title to maybe grab people’s
attention? I mean Getting published – WifeInTheWest
is a little vanilla. You should peek at Yahoo’s front page and watch how they write article titles to grab people to click.
You might add a related video or a related picture or two to get
readers excited about everything’ve got to say.
Just my opinion, it might make your posts a little bit more interesting.

  3. Wow, marvelous blog layout! How long have you been blogging
for? you made blogging look easy. The overall look of your
web site is magnificent, as well as the content!
